An Evening with Sheila Jordan & Friends

Sheila Jordan was raised in poverty in Pennsylvania’s coal mining country. She began singing as a child and by her early teens was working semi-professionally in Detroit clubs. Her singing career led her to New York and she began to encompass jazz liturgies sung in churches. Jordan’s voice set led to remarkable collaborations with bassists Cameran Brown and Harvie Swartz. She has traveled across the globe and released live albums of her performances.

Ms. Jordan will be Millersville University’s 2010 Artist-in-Residency.  Ms. Jordan will work closely with Millersville students, faculty, and staff during her three (3) day residency on campus.  This public concert will feature a quartet of local jazz musicians as well as a performance by the MU Jazz Band.
